About

The Harrodsburg Tree Board

A board of the City of Harrodsburg that looks after the trees growing along our streets, in our parks and on public property.

Our mission

The Harrodsburg Tree Board provides guidance on protecting, maintaining, and enhancing Harrodsburg's urban forest and public trees.

Harrodsburg, founded in 1774 and the first permanent English settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains, has been shaded by generations of trees. Healthy public trees cool our streets, clean our air and water, give wildlife a home and make the town a place people want to walk, shop and gather. Since 2020, the board has planted 254 trees around town, so that the next generations inherit a canopy at least as generous as ours.

Public meetings

The board usually meets the third Monday of each month at 5:00 PM at the Mercer County Extension Office, 1007 Lexington Road, Harrodsburg. Meetings are open to the public under the Kentucky Open Meetings Act. Any change, and any special meeting, is posted on the calendar.

Next meeting: Monday, November 16 at 5:00 PM

A Tree City USA community

Harrodsburg is a Tree City USA community, recognized for the first time in 2026. The Arbor Day Foundation gives the recognition to communities that meet four standards of sound urban forestry, beginning with a tree board like ours.

  1. 1. A tree board or department

A group legally responsible for the care and management of the community's public trees.

  2. 2. A public tree care ordinance

Local law that assigns responsibility and guides planting, protection and maintenance of public trees.

  3. 3. A community forestry budget

At least $2 per capita spent each year on tree care, counting staff time, contracts and volunteer hours.

  4. 4. An Arbor Day observance

A yearly Arbor Day celebration and a proclamation signed by the mayor or city leadership.
